SUMMARY:Meet the Author Sally Handley
DESCRIPTION:Join us as Sally Handley\, President of the Upstate South Carolina Chapter of Sisters in Crime (SinC)\, talks to us about her Holly and Ivy cozy mystery series. Sally's sleuths are middle-aged\, sisters who are gardeners. When they're reluctantly drawn into a murder investigation\, both find inner strength and renewed purpose\, experiencing a renaissance at an age when many choose to accept the limitations of aging.\n\nSally's talk will include a brief definition of the cozy mystery genre. She'll tell us why the titles of her books include the word "bloom"\, but not the word "murder" and discuss how gardening is an element of her mystery series. She'll also provide an introduction to main and recurring characters in her trilogy\, reading selected passages from her books.\n\nBio\n\nAn avid reader\, Sally has been a mystery lover since she read her first Nancy Drew and Trixie Belden books as a young girl. An English major\, she graduated from Douglass College at Rutgers University and earned her Master's Degree with a concentration in Shakespearean studies from Wroxton College\, Oxfordshire\, England. After six years as a public school teacher\, she transitioned into business\, and had a 30 year career as a professional services marketer. She returned to teaching as an adjunct professor of English before retiring in 2015. \n\n A resident of Mauldin\, SC\, Sally now devotes her time to writing cozy mysteries and gardening\, and also writes a blog entitled "On Writing\, Reading and Retirement" at www.sallyhandley.com. \n\n\n\n*This event is hosted by a chamber member.
